The Signal Processing Symposium (SPSympo) was initiated in 2003 by Prof. Krzysztof Kulpa during the 12th IEEE-SPIE Symposium on Advanced Electronics, where he chaired a session on Digital and Radar Signal Processing. Recognizing the need for a dedicated platform, Prof. Kulpa—together with the Radiolocation and Digital Signal Processing Students’ Research Group at Warsaw University of Technology—launched the first independent SPSympo in 2005 in Wilga, Poland.
Since then, SPSympo has been organized biennially in various Polish cities, including Wilga, Jachranka, Dębe, Kraków, Łódź, Karpacz, and Warsaw, steadily growing in scope and impact. Prof. Kulpa served as the General Conference Chair until 2015, and later as the Honorary Chair.
Prof. Piotr Samczyński, initially a student participant in 2003, played a key role in the development of the symposium. He coordinated the event from 2005 to 2009, chaired the Technical Program Committee (TPC) between 2011 and 2017, and was the General Conference Chair from 2019 to 2023. In 2025, he serves as the Honorary Chair alongside Prof. Kulpa, marking a symbolic continuation of leadership and dedication to the signal processing community.
SPSympo has evolved into a respected international conference, attracting researchers, industry professionals, and students from around the world.
